STUDY OF VESTIBULAR EVOKED MYOGENIC POTENTIALS AND ELECTRONYSTAGMOGRAPHY DIGITAL IN PATIENTS WITH BENIGN PAROXYSNAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO

Abstract:

The VPPB is a vestibular disorder characterized by episodes of vertigo roundabout, short duration and high intensity, triggered by the rapid movement of the head. This otoneurologic disease is common, but little is known of their behavior from the perspective of VEMP and VENG. This study aimed to relate the findings related to latency, waveform and peak to peak amplitude (VEMP) and oculomotor tests and vestibular (VENG) in patients with VPPB. We collected 4438 patient records, but after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, we selected 35 charts. Of these 26 were women. The mean age was 52.7 years, and the physiological substrate was the most prevalent ductolithiasis. Statistically significant relationship was found between normal hearing and sensorineural hearing loss contralateral mild. On VENG, the oculomotor tests showed results within normal limits; symmetrical operation of the semicircular canals (p <0.001) to PRPD and normoreflexy in the caloric test, with statistical significance. The positive positioning maneuver related VEMP results tend to be significant for Lp13 the left ear. The normal reflexes may influence the interpeak VEMP on the left ear (tends to be statistically significant). It was observed that although there are differences between the average levels of variables VENG about the results of VEMP, these are not considered significant. We concluded that audiological evaluation, hearing thresholds, maneuver and positioning Caloric Test does not cause an effect on quantitative results of VEMP.
