NOISE-INDUCED HEARING LOSS (NIHL) IN PROFESSORS? AUDITIVE AVALIATION IN 50 LECTURERS

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: the environmental noise in classroom (fans, pupils and bad acoustics) has been a constant concern related by the professors. The drawn out time of exposition can be responsible for auditory symptoms and commitment of the hearing. OBJECTIVES: to analyze the audiometric findings of professors, correlating them with complaint of raised noise in classroom. Casuistry and METHODS: 50 professors had answered a questionnaire contend given of identification, auditory conditions of work and symptoms. All had been submitted to the auditory evaluation by means of preliminary tonal audiometry. RESULTS: of the 50 professors, 42 (84%) related high levels of noise in classroom and 18 (36%) related symptoms auditory. The audiometry had revealed normal in 32 cases (64%), sensorineural dyacusis with curve in descending slope in 7 cases (14%) and drop acoustics in 11 cases (22%). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study had indicated auditory commitment in 18 interviewed professors (36%), being that in 11 (22%) of them was detected audiometric traced in drop acoustics, indicating related hearing loss to the noise, have necessity of monitoring of the levels of noise in the classrooms and adoption of writs of prevention.
