USE OF THE TRACHEOTOMY TUBE AND AUDIOLOGIC DIAGNOSTIC ON THE ASSESSMENT OF RISK FOR DYSPHAGIA

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To verify the occurrence of dysphagia with the use of the tracheotomy tube identified in clinical assessment of risk for dysphagia. METHODOLOGY: cross-sectional, quantitative, retrospective database in a teaching hospital. The study included all patients evaluated by a team of speech therapy on the risk for dysphagia and use of tracheotomy tube. We performed analysis of frequency of occurrence (in percentage). RESULTS: 20 subjects, 12 (60%) were male and eight (40%) females in the use of tracheotomy tube. Of the total, 12 (60%) had functional deglutition, four (20%) had normal swallowing, two (10%) had a diagnosis of mild oropharyngeal dysphagia, one (5%) had moderate to severe oropharyngeal dysphagia and one (5%) showed severe oropharyngeal dysphagia. CONCLUSION: There was a predominance percentage of male and diagnosis of swallowing function in both sexes in varying degrees of dysphagia. It was observed that the use of the tracheotomy tube does not represented increase the degree of dysphagia in this study.
