SELF-PERCEPTION OF DIZZINESS IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING VECTOR-NYSTAGMOGRAPHY

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of dizziness on quality of life of patients undergoing Vector-nystagmography, relating to the result obtained in this examination. METHODS: Cross sectional descriptive study with 42 patients undergoing Vector-nystagmography audiology services in two hospitals. Was used for Dizziness Handicap Questionnaire (QHT) to assess the impact of dizziness on quality of life of patients submitted to vestibulometry, which is applied after the examination with the consent of participants. Divided patients into three groups according to the results of caloric testing: normal, Prevalence Labyrinthine (PL) as amended and Directional Preponderance (PD), as amended. We used descriptive statistics to characterize the groups regarding the variables and Anova for comparison between groups, with significance of 5%. RESULTS: The mean age was 55.6 years and 33.3% men and 66.7% women. The group with the PL changed had 21 individuals and QHT average of 60.1 points, the group with PD had changed six individuals with QHT average of 46 points, and the group with normal results was observed with an average of 15 individuals 42 points. The functional aspect was involved in the three groups, with the highest average for the group with modified PL (22.2 points). In the comparison between groups was not statistically significant difference for scores QHT. CONCLUSIONS: Patients undergoing Vector-nystagmography had negative impact on the patient's quality of life, affecting mainly the functional aspect. It is standed a high score to QHT also for individuals with regular TV.
