AUDIOLOGIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CARRYING CHILDREN OF HIV WITH HISTORY OF OTOLOGIC ALTERATIONS

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: to verify the audiologic characteristics of carrying children of HIV virus that presents history of otologic alterations previously. MATERIALS AND METHODS: the data of 22 patients had been analyzed in the age group between 12 years old of 8 years old, carriers of virus HIV with history of otologic alterations during the development. All the integrant ones of this group had been directed by the Group of Attention the AIDS Pediatrician- GAAP, to the Service of Speech Therapy of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Hospital. We carry through Tonal Audiometry, Vocal Audiometry, Immittance testing and apply a questionnaire, where they contained referring questions to the auditory history of each individual. RESULTS: We observe that 8 evaluated had presented unilateral hearing loss and 10 had presented bilateral, that is, the majority of the children presented auditory deficit. The hearing loss found in all these cases was of the conductive type, where 13.6% with presence of unilateral tympanic perforation and bilateral 31.8%. Of the 44 analyzed ears, 11 had presented hearing loss of moderate degree, 10 of light degree. The majority of the found Tympanometric curves had been of type B and type C. The acoustic consequences had been absent in the majority of the cases. We verify, through the analysis of the questionnaire, that 21 of these children presented related complaint the floating hearing. CONCLUSION: Ahead of the gotten data, they had been found in the carrying children of HIV virus with history of otologic alterations conductive hearing loss of light degree to the moderate one, being able to be unilateral or bilateral, with Tympanometric curves of the type absent B and acoustic consequences in the majority of the cases. Such probably recurrent findings of inflammation of the average ear and/or tympanic perforation.
