Abstract:

The surgical three-dimensional anatomy of the human temporal bone is certainly among the most refined and complex of the organism. Its profound and detailed knowledge is a primordial point for the otologist. The estereoscopic three-dimensional images can be used for teaching and documentation purposes. The objective of this study is to demonstrate its usefulness in teaching of the surgical anatomy of the temporal bone. For this purpose, a temporal bone was dissected and, after analysis of the tridimensional images obtained, the authors consider that the method contributed very much to the demonstration and the understanding of the complex surgical anatomy of the human temporal bone.
