VIDEO FLUOROSCOPIC FINDINGS OF SWALLOWING OF SUBJECTS WITH PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To identify changes in the swallowing process most often found in subjects with Parkinson's disease through examination of Fluoroscopy. METHODOLOGY: For inclusion in the study subjects had to have only Parkinson's disease without other pathology that has as a consequence of dysphagia. We analyzed 21 reports of examination of a sector of Speech Therapy in hospital in the city of Passo Fundo. The analysis was performed with the test liquid and pasty consistency, the side position. RESULTS: During the oral observed that the 21 subjects, both for consistency, 12 had oral transit time and increased mobility of the tongue reduced. Residue in the oral cavity was observed in 6 patients and premature escape later in 13 patients. Pharyngeal phase in the reaction Swallowing was considered late for both consistencies in 13 subjects, triggered in the pharyngoesophageal transition, reduced laryngeal elevation at 9. Residue in the vallecula, pharyngeal recesses and posterior pharyngeal wall was observed in 15 subjects, with consequent increased pharyngeal transit time. Laryngeal penetration was observed in 8 subjects only for liquid and aspiration to a subject in the same consistency. CONCLUSION: The results of the analyzed reports may point out that the dynamics of swallowing a patient with Parkinson's disease, both in oral and pharyngeal phase, presents aspects related to change very slowly and muscle weakness, characteristic of the disease. These data allow a more accurate speech therapist's swallowing of the patient, favoring more specific approaches for the treatment of dysphagia.
