Abstract:

Introduction: The gastroesophageal reflux disease causes ear nose and throat symptoms. The understanding of the etiology and the pathophysiology of the phenomenon as well as the mechanisms of the cervical complaints must be known to improve the quality of the clinical investigation. Objective: To review the main signs and symptoms and the underlying mechanisms of the gastroesophageal reflux. Conclusions: The subsidiary exams to diagnose the gastroesophageal reflux disease are not always positive. So, when cervical complaints are present, the otolaryngologist should perform a therapeutic test with dietary orientation. The otolaryngologist and gastroenterologist should keep a good relationship and discuss the individual cases, once these frontier relationships enrich our daily practice.
