PREVALENCE OF ANTROCHOANAL POLYP IN PATIENTS ATTENDED AT THE DEPARTMENT OF OTOLARYNGOLOGY, HOSPITAL OF CLINICS, ASSUMPTION

Abstract:

Objective: To evaluate the age of presentation and symptoms and treatment more frequently used in the service. Materials and Methods: Clinical histories of patients with antrochoanal, correctly completed, since the year 2007 until 2011. Case Study: Retrospective study, in which cross-section analyzed 13 patients with antrochoanal subjected to analyzes of the same year since the year of 2007 until 2011 on chair of which the largest peak age seen in the age group 11 - 20 years, most was female and most were consulted by unilateral nasal obstruction, purulent rhinorrhea and occasional epistaxis, treatment instituted in our department was exceresis endoscopic tumor in most cases, changing occasionally conduct before the larger size and recurrence of the same, the who observed only in one patient, surgery is the option of Caldwell Luc used for a better approach, the rest showed clinical improvement without recurrence. The pathology returned PAC in all cases except one, where the inverted papillome returned. Conclusion: The PAC is a tumor disease of youth, the main symptoms are nasal obstruction and tumor accompanied by occasional epistaxis, treatment is elected exceresis endoscopy, in some cases accompanied by a Caldwell Luc surgery, presenting in most cases good outcome.
