ACOUSTICS ALTERATIONS RELATED TO THE PROCESS OF SENILITY OF THE VOICE

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: The vocal folds are not saved of the process of senility of the organism culminating with the development of the presbiphonia which can be related with worsening in the quality of life for much aged inserted in activities of work and leisure. OBJECTIVE: to characterize the alterations related vocal acoustics to the senility process. MATERIAL AND METHOD: had been enclosed 41 volunteers with age between 60 and 89 years, subdivided in three age groups (60-69 years, 70-79 and above of 80), being 15 men and 26 women. For the analyzes acoustics was used program MDVP, being evaluated, during the sustentation of the vowel /a/, the F0 parameters, Jitter, PPQ, APQ, Shimmer, NHR and SPI. The results of these analyses in the population of aged had been compared with the ones of a group have controlled with ages between 30 and 50 years (n-37; 12 men and 25 women). All the participants had been submitted to the videolaryngoscopy and the percipient-auditory vocal evaluation. RESULTS: In the videolaryngoscopy, the observed alteration more in the group above of 60 years was the presence of fusiform crack. The values of Fo in the masculine sex had revealed higher than the control, mainly above of 80 years. The values of Jitter, Shimmer, PPQ, APQ and SPI, had revealed higher in aged in all the age group. CONCLUSION: the vocal analyses of the aged ones had shown to alterations when comparative striking acoustics of the adults, indicating the diverse degrees of vocal deterioration. It is given credit that some of these alterations can be brightened up or be prevented with the phonoaudiologic therapy, thus postponing the consequences of the presbiphonia.
