COMPARISON OF AUDITORY EVOKED POTENTIALS OF STEADY-STATE AND POTENTIALS EVOKED BY AUDITORY BRAINSTEM RESPONSE IN INFANTS WITH SPECIFIC FREQUENCY HEARING LOSS

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To correlate the results of the auditory evoked potential steady state (PEAEE) with the results of the auditory evoked potential (PEATE) for specific frequency in infants with sensorineural hearing loss. Method: Cross sectional, individual, observational and contemporary. We selected children who failed the newborn hearing screening to be submitted to audiological diagnostic process, which followed the following protocol tests: transient evoked otoacoustic emissions, acoustic impedance measurements with 1000 Hz probe, Otolaryngological avaliation, PEATE per click and specific frequency. Those with positive diagnosis of sensorineural hearing loss were included, later realizing the PEAEE. The equipment used was the Smart EP, Intelligent Hearing Systems brand and frequencies 500 Hz and 4000 Hz were investigated. RESULTS: There was significant correlation between the PEATE - FE and PEAEE at 500 Hz and 2000 Hz (p <0.001), both in the right ear and left ear. There was significant correlation between the PEAEE and PEATE-FE at 500 Hz and 2000 Hz (p <0.001), both female and male gender in both ears. CONCLUSION: We found a significant correlation between PEAEE and PEATE for specific frequency for both ear variable as to gender.
