Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: The snoring is a sleep-related complaint seen in the Otolaryngology. Physical examination of these patients may help in understanding the cause of snoring, as well as in choosing the best treatment. This study aims to assess the prevalence of changes oropharingoscopy and anthropometric measurements in patients with snoring. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated 15 patients with complaints of snoring, aged between 28 years old and 61 years old, 8 men and 7 women. In this group were measured, among other parameters, weight, height, IMC, neck and abdominal circumference. At oropharingoscopy were observed: modified Mallampati classification, classification of Brodsky, the presence of elongated uvula, high arched palate, enlarged tongue and degree of dental occlusion. Completed the Epworth and Stanford scales. Patients with IMC > 40. RESULTS: The most prevalent were modified Mallampati grade IV (40%), grade 1 Brodsky tonsils (46.7%), dental occlusion class II (60%), high palate (53.3%), absence of enlarged tongue (53.3%), eutrophic uvula (53.3%), increased waist circumference (53.3%), normal neck circumference (73.3%), Epworth scale score > 10 (66.7%), Stanford 4-6 scale points (60%), stage III Friedman (73.3%), IMC 25-29.9 (60%) CONCLUSION: Excessive sleepiness, Mallampati classification IV, stage III Friedman, dental occlusion class II, increased waist circumference, presence of overweight and high palate are the most frequent alterations in patients with complaints of snoring in this study.
