Abstract: |
OBJECTIVE: To present a case of granular cell tumor of the larynx involving a child. CASE REPORT: IFS, 10 years, male, mulatto, he was born in Salvador, Bahia, student. He looked for a otolaryngologic treatment complaining of dysphonia associated with mild dyspnea and stridor at night. Direct laryngoscopy revealed a large cystic lesion originating from the left vocal cord, the other structures of the larynx without compromise. Tomography of the chest and neck unchanged indicating that injury. He decided to make it through excision of laryngeal microsurgery. During this procedure was observed that the mass had subglottic origin. The injury looks possessed whitish mass, hardened, with approximately 2 cm in the longest axis. Referred material with a pathological diagnosis of granular cell tumor confirmed by immunohistochemistry. CONCLUSIONS: Thus we conclude that, despite its low prevalence (among benign tumors of the larynx, it accounts for only 0.4%), the hypothesis of granular cell tumor should be included when in the presence of a lesion benign aspect direct laryngoscopy, emphasizing the importance of immunohistochemistry to confirm the diagnosis and still searching for more than one lesion in the same organ or in different places.
