INTRODUCTION: The voice is the main instrument in the life of the teacher therefore requires a precise adaptation of the organs of speech. The teacher's voice has been the focus of studies over the past two decades due to the high occurrence of vocal work in this class. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the vocal behavior of the educators of Jaboatão dos Guararapes - PE and the interference in vocal complaints from the pros. Method: We used the analysis of the records of the educators who began rehabilitation in CASPE. We excluded records that were not complete interview with speech and / or vocal assessment, the item was found: habits / behaviors and factors that favor vocal abuse / misuse voice. The sample consisted of 100 educators (both sexes) who work in public schools. RESULTS: The most vocal behaviors were scored: talk a lot (86%), speech in noise (65%), talks a lot without hydration (44%), crying (43%) and uses the voice as cold (40% ) regarding factors that favor vocal misuse, the most prominent item was, remains in a dusty environment (69%), the habit was inappropriate highest scoring: do not keep the habit of drinking water (52%) and vocal complaints most commonly found in educators was hoarseness and vocal fatigue. CONCLUSION: We conclude that altered vocal behaviors are found in this population and that these directly influence the voice quality to the point of triggering vocal complaints detrimental to the welfare of the global professional. Such evidence reinforces the importance of speech therapy and interventionist actions within the school environment.
