Abstract: |
OBJECTIVE: To present a cause little diagnosised of dysphagia in aged patients. CASE REPORT: there are two men, aged patients (65 and 66 years), with complaints of dysphagia for solids, intermittent dysphonia and cough, it has 2 years coincidently. Both were hypertensive and most aged also he was diabetic. They had been submitted the examination of videolaryngoscopy, being disclosed, in the two patients, bulging in posterior wall of Oropharynx extending hypopharynx to it, with smooth surface, whose point of bigger exuberance placed it the level of the superior edge of epiglottis. We request simple x-ray of cervical column with findings of diffuse calcification of previous the longitudinal ligament and relative preservation of intervertebral spaces in the two cases. Both had been submitted the barium esophagography, with findings of nip of the light to the level of hypopharynx and pear-shaped accumulation of contrast in vallecula and sinus in delayed phase. In the patient most aged, the nip was sharper and had capitation of contrast in the by airmail inferior one. Both had been diagnosised with disease of Forestier and, after neurosurgery and orthopedic evaluation was indicated treatment conservative. CONCLUSION: In aged patients, many are the causes and the mechanisms of dysphagia, in the different phases of the deglutition. The otolaryngologist is the professional whom daily deals with patients with this complaint and must attempt against even though for less common diagnostic, as the disease of Forestier. It is distinguished that, in this disease, the dysphagia mechanisms are diverse and synergic and the same one has high esteem prevalence, although few diagnosised patients.
