Abstract: |
OBJECTIVE: To describe the results of research of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (EOAET) and cochlear-palpebral reflex (CPR) in premature children. METHODOLOGY: We analyzed 1123 hearing screening protocols for children aged between one month and six years. The trials were conducted between 2002 and 2009 at a private clinic. The evaluation protocol included anamnesis, capture and record the EOAET and RCP research. RESULTS: 1123 of protocols analyzed, 205 (18.25%) indicated preterm birth (gestational age 36 weeks or less). Of these, there was presence of EOAET in both ears and RCP in 188 (91.7%) and absence of both in four (1.95%). In 3 (1.46%) showed the presence of RCP protocols with absence of EOAET. The other protocol conditions indicated the presence of unilateral EOAET, which was not analyzed in this study. CONCLUSION: EOAET and RCP coexisted in 91.7% of protocols including premature infants, most obvious result found. The lack of them was observed in 1.95% of the protocols. Thus, the group studied no influence of prematurity on the outcome of hearing screening.
