INTRODUCTION: Despite the strong association between tinnitus and hearing loss, there is still no consensus regarding the best treatment for tinnitus, nor about the best tools for measuring discomfort. To assess whether there is a reduction in bothersome tinnitus through the use of hearing aids (AAS) conventional, and psychoacoustic subjective measures comparing pre-and post-enforced adaptation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted in Hearing Aid Clinic / Reouvir Area of the Hospital of USP, between July and November of 2011. We evaluated 18 adults of both sexes with hearing loss and tinnitus. In the stage of pre-hearing aid fitting, psychoacoustic measurements were made of tinnitus: Pitch Matching, Loudness and Minimum Masking Level (MML). As subjective measures of discomfort were applied to analog scale / visual and questionnaires Tinnitus Handicap Inventory and the Tinnitus Handicap Questionnaire. In the stage of post-adaptation after 4 months of use of aspirin, were reapplied the same measures the time of pre-adaptation. RESULTS: The subjective tools used showed a significant decrease in discomfort due to tinnitus with the use of conventional AAS. Psychoacoustic measures of the MML was the only one that showed a trend towards improvement after the intervention. CONCLUSION: The subjective measurement tools were effective in demonstrating the reduction of discomfort due to tinnitus through the use of conventional AAS.
