Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To verify the phonological evolution of subjects with phonological disorder underwent two different therapeutic approaches. CASE REPORT: participated in the study four female subjects, aged between 4:2 and 7 years, and speech disorder. All were assessed using the Phonological Assessment of Child and phonological inventories were established early. From this assessment was calculated on the severity of the deviation, two were classified with moderate - severe (Subject 1 and 3) and two with mild-moderate deviation (Subject 2 and 4). After been treated by different therapeutic approaches: Modified Maximum Opposition Model / Empty Set increased stimulation of orofacial practice skills (S1 and S2); Multiple Oppositions Model (S3 and S4), contrasting the various sounds in phonological inventory of the missing child sound replacement. Data were compared before and after therapy, checking the acquired phonemes in phonological inventory of the subjects. All showed changes in their phonological inventory. S3 was the guy who had major acquisitions (10 phonemes), followed by S1 and S2, 8 and 7 phonemes respectively. The mean addition to the subjects dealt with by the maximum opposition model phonemes was 7.5, whereas for the subjects treated by the model of multiple oppositions was 5.5 phonemes. CONCLUSIONS: Both approaches were effective therapy for the treatment of phonological disorder in the cases studied, since in general similar acquisitions in deviant phonological inventories, regardless of receiving stimulation of orofacial practice skills.
