Abstract:

Check myofunctional oral changes in a patient with severe oligodonty. We did an interview and, subsequently, applied to the Protocol of Orofacial Motricity (Marchesan, 2003), documented with photos and footage. The patient is female, 15 years old, has agenesis of the teeth 12, 14, 15, 16, 24, 25, 31, 35, 41, 45, who are the lower central incisors (one end), maxillary lateral incisor (12), premolars upper and lower first molar. Makes follow up with an orthodontist and pediatric dentist. After performing a history and evaluation showed that: have a preference for liquid and pasty food, restless sleep, snoring, drooling, dry mouth wakes up sometimes sleeping on your side and supports hands over his face to sleep. Displays onychophagy and bruxism. In relation to respiratory health, the patient reported allergic rhinitis. With relationship to head posture is forward in relation to the chest, his lips are asymmetrical, have parted and when occluded voltage with respect to the commissure is observed that the closed and open smile right is higher; the cheeks are asymmetrical, left with greater volume and tone normal, flaccid right. The following functions: respiration is mixed, is unilateral chewing, speech has earlier sigmatism in the phonemes / s / / z / / t / / d / and little articulation of the mandible with deviation to the left side. Due to the numerous changes found, it is concluded that the speech therapy is extremely important to the success of orthodontic treatment and improved quality of life of patients with tooth agenesis.
