Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To compare the findings of clinical evaluation (ACD), with the findings of video fluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing (AVD) in individuals with dysphagia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We evaluated eight patients at the Hospital of the City of Passo Fundo with suspected dysphagia due to different pathologies. The performance of swallowing was assessed clinically using a specific protocol and after, were sent for examination during Fluoroscopy of swallowing. Swallows were compared to pasty consistency. In CONCLUSION, the data found in both evaluations were analyzed and compared. RESULTS: The aspects of swallowing were analyzed and showed some difference in the results of clinical evaluation for video fluoroscopic were swallowing reaction, where 50% had delayed the second clinical evaluation, compared to 87.5% in video fluoroscopic evaluation, laryngeal penetration, which showed signs suggestive of this aspect in the clinical evaluation in 75% of the subjects, while only 25% had actually seen in laryngeal penetration test, and tracheal aspiration, which 12.5% had signs suggestive of aspiration during clinical evaluation, and examination, no subject had aspiration. CONCLUSIONS: This study allows pointing out that many of the aspects analyzed, shows similar results in clinical and video fluoroscopic evaluations, showing that clinical assessment conducted by a trained professional is of paramount importance. But some aspects of the pharyngeal phase of swallowing are only likely to be affirmed using objective test, such as Fluoroscopy of swallowing, which are essential aspects in the conduct Speech. Thus, the test should be part of the research, complementing the clinical evaluation.
