VOICE AND BREATHING: FOUND ALTERATIONS IN AN AVALIATION OF APHASIC PATIENT

Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To describe the vocal N patient, 41, who has aphasia after stroke, seen in a school clinic. CASE REPORT: The assessment of voice and breath. In evaluating the maximum phonation time (TMF), N. had difficulty initiating prolonged emission of the vowels / a /, / e /, / i / and / u /, accomplishing only aid the examiner by prompting phonetic. As for the phonemes / s / and / z /, the patient was unable to make the issue even with the assistance of the examiner. TMF present are reduced. In issuing the / e / a voiceless patient presented TMF considerably higher than that of other TMF of phonemes evaluated. In counting numbers, counted to 10, presenting difficulties to the issuance thereof. Besides these changes, the patient had decreased speech rate and loudness reduced. CONCLUSION: Probably the framework of the aphasic patient has influenced the found results. The TMF can be explained by reduced pneumophonoarticulatory in coordination caused by difficulty in initiating the production of phonemes, which is a common feature in the paintings of aphasia. Therefore, the results call attention to the importance of conducting evaluation of voice and breath in cases of aphasia.
