Abstract:
Introduction: The literature is not clear about the development of vascular abnormalities in the turbinates after the partial turbinectomy surgical procedure.
Aim: To detect possible vascular anomalies in the mucosa of the inferior turbinate after partial turbinectomy.
Material and Methods: Twenty-one patients with previous partial inferior turbinectomy were evaluated, 11 males and 10 females, aged between 18 to 60 years. The patients underwent biopsy of the inferior turbinate and the fragments were studied through light microscopy.
Results: All fragments of the mucosa demonstrated a typical aspect of upper respiratory tract epithelium, without any vascular anomalies in the histologic study.
Conclusion: The histological aspect of the turbinates after the partial turbinectomy is similar to that of thenormal mucosa.
