Abstract:

Introduction: The benign neoplasms are responsible for 75% of the tumors affecting the salivary glands. During the last years, studies have been looking for factors involved in the pathogenesis of such neoplasms. New methods of diagnosis have been added to the old ones, increasing medical investigation of this illness. Objective: Our aim was to review the literature, emphasizing the recent progresses in the clinical approach and current histological classification. Conclusions: In spite of its relative low occurrence, early detection of salivary glands tumors is mandatory. We also need to regard new methods of diagnosis used in the management of patients with neck masses.
