Abstract:

Introduction: The treatment of cholesteatoma is usually surgical, through mastoidectomy. The Bondy’s modified radical mastoidectomy (BMRM) is an option for small cholesteatomas. Objective: The aim of this study was to present and analyze the results of BMRM without the meatoplasty. Methods: 16 patients with cholesteatomas (7 males and 9 females, middle age 31,4 years) underwent BMRM and were analyzing in regard to follow-up, audiologic and esthetic results. Results: 94% of the ears were dry, without residual cholesteatoma, 56% got a parcial improvement of audiologic results and 88% were satisfied with the surgical treatment. Conclusion: The BMRM without meatoplasty is an efficient conservative surgical choice for the treatment of small cholesteatoma.
