Abstract: |
Introduction: The surgical removal is still the main option in the management of laryngeal papillomatosis. However, the need of repeated surgical interventions and the potential risk of airway obstruction often require adjuvant therapy. The cidofovir is used since 1995 and represents one of those possibilities, as it inhibits the tumor growth and increases the interval between surgeries.
Objective: To present our experience with cidofovir injection in the management of laryngeal papillomatosis.
Case report: Three patients were submitted to removal of laryngeal papillomatosis followed by the cidofovir injection. Biopsies of the lesions were made and videolaryngoscopies were performed after the surgeries. Total control of laryngeal papillomatosis was obtained in two cases after 8.5 months of follow-up and a partial control was observed in the third patient, who presented a small lesion on vestibular folds 4 months after the surgery.
Conclusion: Cidofovir seems to be a good adjuvant treatment of laryngeal papillomatosis.
