Abstract: |
Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of the humming in patients taken care of in a campaign of prevention to the Humming carried through for the Otolaryngology League of the University of Santa Cruz do Sul, as well as evaluating the repercussion that this symptom has and which its interference in the quality of life of these patients. Material and methods: Resultant transversal study of the application of structuralized, adapted questionnaires of the questionnaire of activities of the humming IOWA, developed for the University of Buffalo. The questionnaire was applied only for those patients whom they related buzzed as one of the main complaints, after the signature of the term of free and clarified assent. Results: of the total of 45 interviewed patients, 53% were of the masculine sex, with average of age in the two genders of 59 years (DP: 13). In the description of the humming, the majority of the interviewed ones did not know to describe it, of that it makes it, the sound most predominant was of "bee". In 42,2% of the cases the humming was bilateral. The affected activities more had been in sequence of frequency: concentration, sleep and social life. Eighty percent of the interviewed ones had hypoacusia as associated symptom and previous exposition the noises were present in 55% of the cases. In a scale of bother caused for the symptom that varied of 0 the 5, where 0 meant no bother and to 5 greater bother, 50% of the patients classified as degree 4. Conclusions: Ahead of the repercussions that the humming has on the patients, it is important that the doctors give to special attention the psychological consequence of such symptom, that they influence directly in the quality of life of these.
