The otomycosis is a mycotic infection that attacks the ear canal and the tympanic membrane. In the last years, there has been little evolution in relation to the therapeutic behavior and measures of prophylaxis of the recurrence of such entity. It is more commonly caused by the Aspergillus spp and the Candida spp fungi. The main predisponent factors are: humidity, high temperatures, bad hygiene, obstruction of the canal, use of topical medication, and other nosologies associated with the immunosuppression, as well as atopies. The diagnosis is made of anamnesis and otoscopy, and the main signs and symptoms are pruritus, otalgia and otorrhea and the visualization of fungical mycelium. For treatment, in cases which the mechanical removal of the fungi is insufficient, drug alternatives are used, such as topical antiseptics, antimicrobial, antimycotic and topical and oral corticosteroid.
