Abstract: |
OBJECTIVE: Sudden deafness is characterized for hearing loss of sudden, sensorineural installation, of more than 30dB in at least 3 consecutive frequencies. This objective work to trace the epidemiologist profile of the patients with sudden deafness. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Analysis retrospect of 13.422 a thousand submitted patients the electronistagmography in a unit of attendance of average complexity specialist in otolaryngology between 2001 and 2011. Of these, 81 had presented sudden deafness, being that 16 had been excluded due to data. RESULTS: Handbooks of 65 patients with sudden deafness had been analyzed, being 31 of feminine sex and 34 of the masculine sex. The right side was attacked (57% of the cases), however this difference was not statistical significant. The more prevalent age group was between 19-40 years (52.3%), followed for the group between 41-65 years (33.8%). Above of 66 years the prevalence was of 10.7% and below of 18 years, of 0.3%. CONCLUSIONS: This analysis allows concluding that the sex does not determine greater probability of installation of the sudden deafness. It does not have preference of attacking between the right and left sides. The more prevalent age group is of 19 the 40 years.
