EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF 277 PATIENTS WITH FACIAL FRACTURES TREATED AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT THE OTOLARYNGOLOGIST SERVICE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF WORKERS HOSPITAL IN CURITIBA / PR, IN 2010

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: Epidemiological studies have focused on the facial injuries are of great interest to the knowledge of the occurrence in quantity and severity of presenting. OBJECTIVE: To study the epidemiological profile of the 277 patients who suffered facial fractures at the Hospital Workers (HT) with an emphasis on variables such as sex, age, etiology and anatomical sites of fractures, comparing clinical findings with other studies. METHODS: Retrospective, nonrandomized, by consulting the medical records of 277 patients who were treated by HT in Otolaryngologist Service during the period from January 01st of 2010 to December 31th of 2010, victims of facial fractures. RESULTS: Of the 277 patients, 74.72% were male and 25.27% female ratio 3:1. According to age, the fractures were distributed as follows: 0-9 years old: 4.69%, 10-19 years old: 17.32%, 20-29 years old: 23.82%, 30-39 years old: 20, 21% 40-49 years old: 16.24%, 50-59 years old: 10.83%, 60-69 years old: 3.97%, and 60-79 years old: 2.88%. The etiology of trauma was the most frequent interpersonal violence and 36.45%, followed by falls to 23.09% and motor vehicle crashes with 17.32%. Regarding location, nasal fracture was the most common, with 44.75%, 14.32% followed by the mandible, orbit 12.78%, 12.02% maxillary, zygomatic 9.97%, 3.32% and front Le Fort 2.88% CONCLUSION: The most common finding is the male patient, aged 21-30 years old, a victim of aggression and the bone is the most commonly fractured nose.
