Abstract: |
OBJECTIVE: To report two cases of sudden deafness (SS) bilaterally assisted by the service of otolaryngology and correlates them with literature, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. Case 1: Female, 49 years old, with tinnitus and hearing loss especially on the left of sudden developments. Physical examination revealed no changes sensorineural hearing loss (DSN) and audiometry mild to moderate right and mild to severe left with good discrimination bilaterally. Were requested laboratory tests and imaging, the treatment was started immediately, with corticosteroids, and antiviral vasodilator. After a week, returned claiming improvement in symptoms, with normal laboratory tests, but without imaging. Case 2: Male, 39 years old, with tinnitus and bilateral hearing loss started two days ago. Physical examination revealed no changes. DSN showed moderate to profound, with low discrimination. Also were required exams and treatment was initiated. After ten days he returned, claiming partial improvement. Audiometry, DSN still had left with low discrimination and within the normal range on the right. Laboratory and imaging without change. CONCLUSION: The SS stands out as one of the most controversial issues in otolaryngology, especially with regard to etiology and treatment. Presents different forms of involvement and about 1.7% are bilateral. These cases demonstrate the possibility of the occurrence of bilateral simultaneous sudden deafness, the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, such as the etiology, even though most do not find a specific cause, preventing serious damage to the bearer.
