Abstract: |
RFAP patient, 46 year old, female with nasal obstructive symptoms for nearly 2 years, associated with hyposmia and mucopurulent rhinorrhea. At the Otolaryngological examination, there was moderate hypertrophy of inferior turbinate mucosa and hypochromic, with the presence of purulent secretions in the right nasal cavity. Rest of physical examination without changes. Nasal endoscopy showed hypertrophy of the inferior turbinates and yellowish discharge in the right middle meatus. The computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses showed irregular thickening of the mucous-periostal lining the walls of the right maxillary sinus, associated with the formation of polypoid rounded inside, extending to the ipsilateral infundibulum with partial obliteration of that, no signs of involvement of other sinuses or changes bone. The patient was then referred to surgery, performed through sinusotomy right maxillary (Caldwell Luc) with removal of the entire lesion of the right maxillary sinus, leaving the safety margin. After removal of papillomatous lesion filling the maxillary sinus material was sent for histopathology and immunohistochemistry, with report of inverted papillome without atypical cells. The patient was followed up to control recurrences.
