Abstract: |
INTRODUCTION: The nasolabial cyst is a rare lesion; its frequency corresponds to 0.7% of cystic lesions of the jaws and 2.5% of non-odontogenic cysts. Usually unilateral (90%), predominantly in females (4th and 5th decades of life) and has a predilection for black. OBJECTIVE: To report a case of nasolabial cyst whose chief complaint was nasal obstruction; report summarized: OJS, 33 years old, Caucasian, coming from Sorocaba, student, presented a chief complaint of unilateral nasal obstruction on the right start for over two years. He also referred progressive facial asymmetry start a year ago, no complaints of pain and rhinorrhea. Rhinoscopy showed severe obstruction of the right nasal cavity, a survey of the ipsilateral nasal ala and facial asymmetry. Local palpation revealed prominence hardened in the right region of the nasal ala, without mobility. He denied pain. We ordered computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses showing expanding tumor with soft tissue density located in the right nasal, with clear contours and with homogeneous density, presence of bone remodeling on the floor of right nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses transparency preserved. The treatment consisted of surgical enucleation of the lesion performed by intra-oral. Histopathology revealed a fibrous cyst wall with light coating pseudo stratified cylindrical epithelium enclosing mucous secreting and goblet cells. The postoperative course was free of symptoms and no recurrence of the lesion was observed in this period (two years); CONCLUSION: Although uncommon in the general population, one must consider the nasolabial cyst in the differential diagnosis of patients with nasal obstruction.
