Abstract:
In this study we present a new method of UPPP and analyse the results in twenty nine adult patients. Patients diagnosed with moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) were excluded, as well as those with anatomic abnormalities over which UPPP would have no effect. The mean follow up time was 2 years and 3 months. The short term success rate was 96,2%. The long term success rate – minimum of 12 months follow up – decreased to 78,6%. In no cases snoring became worse after surgery. There were transient complications in 5 cases. The results in this study are superior to those observed in other series using different methods of UPP. Some technical details of the procedure are discussed as well as the importance of a individualized case selection for its outcome.
