Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To relate possible changes in phonemes dental-tongue with the skills of the stomatognathic system concerning the language. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 113 subjects participated in the survey aged between 4 and 9 years old, 72 males and 41 females. These subjects underwent pre-therapy assessments, which were analyzed: the Child Phonological Evaluation (Yavas, Hernandorena and Lamprecht, 1991) to check the level of purchase (Purchased, or Acquired Partially Missing) dental-tongue phonemes (/ t, d, n, l /), and evaluation of the Stomatognathic System (Marchesan, 1998), which examined the presence or absence of skills related to language (protrusion, retraction, vibration, cracking, lifting vs. edge thinning and extension vs. tillering.) From these data, statistical analysis was performed with the Mann-Whitney test (U test), considering p <0.05. RESULTS: notice that the vibration was the language skills that children had more difficulty in performing. As the phoneme / l / was what had the lowest rate of correct performance. Still, there was no statistical difference between the levels of acquisition of phonemes / t, d, n, l / and the difficulty in performing the skills of the stomatognathic system regarding language. It is believed that this occurred because most subjects do not show changes in the phonological inventory of phonemes (Level Acquired). CONCLUSIONS: The production of phonemes dental-tongue was not influenced by the skills of the stomatognathic system concerning the language.
