Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the intensity of use of music used in class by teachers of dance academies and dance schools in Porto Alegre (RS). METHODS: A questionnaire was developed, containing objective and subjective questions. After the interview, the researchers remained in dance classes, performing measurements of sound intensity level used by teachers. All were instructed to maintain the level of intensity that usually used in their classes. The measurements were performed using a sound pressure meter model DL-4020 of ICEL brand Manaus. RESULTS: The sample consisted of 22 individuals, 16 (72.72%) were female and six (27.27%) were male. Their ages ranged between 18 and 55 years. The assessment of the level of intensity has varied from 65 to 95 dB, including all forms of dance. It was found that 10 (45.5%) teachers used in their classes, music at intensities greater than 85 dB. The highest intensities were observed in the lessons of street dance and jazz and the lower classes in classical ballet. CONCLUSION: This study showed that most teachers use in their classes evaluated one above the noise level of 85 dB. From the observed results, an extension project was developed and is being developed in order to guide teachers about the effects of auditory and extra-auditory noise.
