Abstract:

Dizziness is a high prevalent problem in the elderly. We analized 35 patients aged 60 to 84 years, and studied the alterations of the electronystagmography. We found hyporeactivity in 27% and hyperreactivity in other 27% of our cases, with 14% of arreflexy, 9% microwriting, 9% disturbance in rhythm, and 14% of square waves. The authors conclude that the alterations in the exam may show variable changes that caracterize hypoperfusion syndroms of the brain stem and peripheric vestibular structures.
