COMPARISON BETWEEN THE FINDINGS OF BEHAVIORAL HEARING ASSESSMENT OF AUDITORY AND THE EVOKED POTENTIALS OF STEADY-STATE IN INFANTS WITH SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS |

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation between the threshold of the behavioral hearing assessment and auditory evoked potentials steady state (PEAEE). MATERIAL AND METHODS: We evaluated 16 children aged between 0 and 6 months of age with sensorineural hearing loss of moderate to deep. It was previously performed evaluation with an otolaryngologist, otoacoustic emissions, acoustic impedance measurements, the research of auditory evoked potentials brainstem stimulus frequency and click on the specific frequencies of 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 kHz. When presented changes in these assessments, the infants were referred to the research of the minimum response of PEAEE. PEAEE was performed with the Smart EP device, of IHS brand, stimulated by frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz, modulated with amplitudes of 77, 85, 93 and 101 Hz in the left ear and 79, 87, 95 and 103 Hz right ear. RESULTS: To verify the existence of correlations used the Spearman correlation coefficient. There was no significant difference between ears (p = 0.532) and gender (p = 0.615). There was significant correlation between the PEAEE thresholds obtained in the behavioral hearing assessment and at 500 Hz (p <0.025), 1000Hz (p <0.003), 2000Hz (p <0.000) and 4000 Hz (p <0.001). CONCLUSION: We found a significant correlation between the thresholds and PEAEE thresholds obtained behavioral hearing assessment. PEAEE is a viable test, being able to predict the degree and configuration of hearing loss in infants and can be a procedure that is included in the routine clinical assessment of hearing children.
