Abstract: |
Introduction: The popularization of magnetic resonance and the awareness about the importance of an early diagnosis of the tumors of cerebello pontine angle allowed the recognition of small tumors.
Objective: To review and analyze the main complications of the vestibular schwannoma surgery through translabirynthine and retrolabirynthine approaches, describing the management adopted in our service.
Results: The main complications due to these approaches were: intracranial vascular complications, bleeding in the posterior fossa, CSF fistula, meningitis, facial paralysis and worsening of hearing loss.
Conclusion: Although still prevalent, the surgical complications are becoming less and less frequent. In order to continue such decrease, it is fundamental that the ENT makes an early diagnosis, attempting to poor symptoms such as unilateral hearing loss and/or tinnitus, with or without vestibular symptoms.
