DIABETES AND HEARING LOSS SELF-DECLARED POPULATION PRELIMINARY DATA

Abstract:

Introduction: The auditory health is important factor for the maintenance of the quality of life in the contemporary society, possessing excellent paper for the socialization and accomplishment of the activities of daily life of the individual. Diverse are the factors that can contribute for the reduction of the auditory acuidade, amongst which, diabetes mellitus, aggravate relatively common in the modern society. However, the relation between diabetes and auditory loss lack of clarifications. It is known that the labyrinthine structures present intense metabolic activities, despite they do not possess deposit of oxygen, glucose or ATP; being extremely sensible to the maintenance of these levels. Riots in the metabolism of the glucose could modify the adequate functioning of the auditory functions and labyrinthine, however, after detailed bibliographical revision is perceivable to the existing controversy regarding the subject, despite great part of the authors admits the possible relation enters the co-occurrence of diabetes and auditory loss. Objective: To verify the relation between auditory loss and diabetes self-declared. Methodology: From sample of domiciliary population study, 412 citizens had been interviewed by means of protocol previously structuralized composed for closed questions. Results and Quarrel: It was verified that 13.5% of the studied population related some degree of auditory deficiency. Of these, eight (1.94%) presented diabetes. The reason of 2,25 prevalence was of and the risk of 2,2 (IC 95% 1,37 - 4,47). Conclusion: Despite transversal study it offers to few evidences on cause and effect, the preliminary results of this study directly point proportional relation between auditory loss and diabetes.
