Abstract: |
Objective: To consider new protocol of classification of the presentations of the face nerves from the anatomical relation with the parotid gland and to observe predominant the anatomical position of the branches of the face nerves in relation to the parotid gland. Material and Methods: The study was carried through the comment of photographic registers of partial and total parotidectomy, of patients of the Service of Otolaryngology and Cervical-Face Surgery of the Santa Júlia Hospital, submitted to the surgery in the period of 2002 to 2008. The frequencies of anatomical presentation of the relations between the face nerve and the parotid gland had been established. Result: In relation to the number of observed branches of the face nerve, 43.75% of the parotidectomy presented 4 branches, 37.5% presented 3 branches, 12.5% presented 5 branches and 6.25% had not been possible to identify the branches. Of these observed branches, all were deep (100%). Of these deep branches, 48.21% were deep inferiors, 44.64% deep superiors and 7.14% deep medium. No superficial branch of the face nerve was observed. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that the majority of the branches of the face nerve are deep and inferior. After that, deep and superior branches and in lesser ratio had been observed average deep branches. The comment of these data serves of guide for the surgeons of head and neck for the moment of the surgical boarding of the parotid gland, preventing injuries to the branches of the face nerve at the moment of the dissection of the parotid gland.
